In Papua New Guinea, vehicles are often expected to do far more than everyday driving. They travel across mine sites, remote roads, long transport routes, emergency response zones and security-sensitive locations where reliability, safety and strength are essential.
That reality was the focus of the recent RMA Ford Night hosted by Niu Ford in Port Moresby, where customers were given a closer look at how Ford vehicles can be adapted into specialised working solutions for PNG industry.
The event brought together business leaders, fleet customers, industry operators and key partners to explore a range of Ford-based vehicle conversions designed for sectors such as mining, emergency services, security, transport, logistics and fleet operations.

Rather than presenting vehicles as standard showroom models, the showcase highlighted how Ford platforms can be transformed to meet the specific demands of different industries. Through RMA’s specialist conversion capability, vehicles can be fitted out for mine-site use, emergency response, medical transport, refrigerated logistics, mobile servicing, secure transport and other demanding applications.
For many PNG businesses, this kind of customisation is becoming increasingly important. A vehicle used in mining has different requirements from an ambulance. A security vehicle has different priorities from a refrigerated transport unit. A fleet vehicle operating in remote areas must be prepared for conditions that go well beyond normal urban driving.
The event also gave customers a look at what is coming next for Ford in PNG, including the highly anticipated Ranger Super Duty. Expected to attract strong interest from businesses needing greater strength, payload capability and durability, the Ranger Super Duty is positioned for customers who require a tougher 4WD utility option for demanding work environments.
Ashley Huston, General Manager of PNG Motors and Niu Ford, said the evening was about showing customers what Ford can deliver beyond the traditional dealership experience.
“In Papua New Guinea, many of our customers operate in tough and highly demanding environments. Mining companies, emergency services, security operators, transport providers, and fleet customers all need vehicles that are built around the job. This event was about showing that Ford, together with RMA, can deliver practical vehicle solutions for real PNG conditions.”

Guests were shown a wide range of specialised vehicle solutions, including mine site vehicles, underground mining vehicles, mobile service vehicles, ambulances, emergency response units, fire rescue vehicles, refrigerated vans, discreet armour vehicles and cash-in-transit configurations.
For the mining sector, the focus was on safety and durability. Vehicle solutions can include fire suppression systems, reflective markings, lighting packages, emergency braking systems, protective equipment, communication systems and other mine-site accessories designed to support safer operations in harsh conditions.
Emergency service vehicles were another major feature of the night, with ambulance, emergency response and fire rescue configurations showing how Ford platforms can be converted to support frontline teams. These vehicles can include medical equipment, rescue tools, emergency lighting, patient areas, storage systems and layouts designed for fast and effective response.
The security and cash-in-transit displays highlighted the need for added protection in certain operating environments. Discreet armour and secure transport conversions allow organisations to move people, valuables or assets with greater confidence while maintaining a practical and professional vehicle appearance.

Transport and logistics customers were also able to see how refrigerated vans and trucks can support the movement of food, medical supplies and other temperature-sensitive goods. In PNG, where heat, distance and road conditions can place extra pressure on supply chains, having the right vehicle setup can make a significant difference.
Mobile service vehicles also drew interest from businesses operating across remote or dispersed sites. These fit-outs can support field maintenance, tools, parts storage and on-site servicing, helping businesses reduce downtime and respond more efficiently when equipment or vehicles need support away from base.
Francesco Pochiro from RMA said the company’s approach starts with understanding the customer’s operating environment and then building the vehicle around that need.
“Every industry has different demands. A mining vehicle, an ambulance, a security vehicle, and a transport vehicle all require different solutions. Our role is to take a strong Ford platform and convert it for the exact job it needs to perform, with a focus on safety, durability, reliability, and practical day-to-day use.”
For Niu Ford, the event reinforced its focus on supporting commercial, government and fleet customers with vehicle solutions that match the realities of PNG operations.
Mr Huston said Niu Ford wants customers to see the dealership as a partner in finding practical transport solutions, not simply as a place to purchase vehicles.
“We want our customers to see Niu Ford as more than a dealership. We want to be a partner that helps businesses find the right vehicle solution for their operation. Whether the need is mining, emergency response, security, transport, or fleet support, we can work with Ford and RMA to deliver vehicles that are built for purpose.”
The RMA Ford Night showed how specialised vehicle conversions can help PNG businesses and organisations operate with greater confidence in difficult environments.
For industries where safety, durability and reliability are critical, the message was clear: not every job needs the same vehicle, and not every Ford is built the same.
