Following the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IBS University (IBSU) and IBS College of TVET (IBSC), Theodist Limited welcomed a group of business students from IBSU to its headquarters in Port Moresby for an industry learning visit.
The visit gave students a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how the company operates, with guided tours through the Warehouse, Printing Solutions, Sales, and Showroom departments. Each stop offered real-world insights into how different teams contribute to Theodist’s daily operations.

Theodist’s National Sales and Marketing Manager, Kevin Anderson, spoke to students about the role of strategy and partnerships in driving business success. “Our business strategy combines smart marketing with a long-standing commitment to education. We’ve supported the sector for more than 5 decades because we know that building knowledge today ensures stronger businesses tomorrow.” he said.
The day wrapped up with a lively session led by Theodist’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Kumar Baliah. Drawing from years of experience leading one of Papua New Guinea’s longstanding companies, Mr. Baliah shared practical insights about running a business and answered plenty of questions from the students. He spoke openly about some of the biggest hurdles businesses face in PNG today, particularly skilled workers. “Getting people with the right skillset is a challenge in PNG,” he said. “That’s why Theodist has been committed to supporting education for over 50 years — to help grow future business leaders like yourselves.”

Mr. Baliah also stressed the importance of fostering a positive work culture in the short term, alongside longer-term goals like steady revenue and profitability. He encouraged the students to stay curious, ask questions, and understand that real business isn’t just what you read in textbooks. “The whole point of this visit was to give you an authentic experience of business operations, and to show how every department plays a crucial role in Theodist’s success,” he added. He also reiterated Theodist’s dedication to education as a core part of its community involvement. “Supporting activities that benefit the wider community is very important to us, and education remains a key focus,” Mr. Baliah said. “Our partnership with IBSU and IBSC, formalized through the MOU, is a meaningful step toward preparing PNG’s future workforce with the skills and readiness they need.”
Theodist looks forward to welcoming more student groups and continuing educational initiatives, as part of our ongoing mission to empower young Papua New Guineans and help strengthen the country’s business future.
